Finvola

Not exactly Arran-based but the author lives in High Corrie and is a well-known character on the island.
 
In his novella, Finvola, John Inglis has created an entirely believable heroine of Scottish clan society in the sixteenth century during the reign of James V1.  Finvola grows to maturity in sixteenth-century clan society.  She endures hardship in war and strife but becomes an inspiration to other women with whom she suffers harrowing experiences and wins the respect of her people.
